With over 65 Christmas trees on display, this year’s Christmas Tree Festival at St Paul’s Church, Bedford is shaping up to the be another spectacular event on Bedford’s festive calendar. As ever, all money raised will be donated to the Bedford Hospitals Charity.
Now in its 18th year, the Christmas Tree Festival aims to reflect the rich diversity of Bedford’s community and its customs during the festive period with the theme ‘ Christmas around the world’.
School and community choirs will perform daily, creating a magical, festive atmosphere. Embracing the global theme, other entertaiment comes from an Indian dance group, handbell ringers and an Irish band. Amateur photographers are invited to capture ‘The Spirit of the Festival’ (competition deadline 17 December).
This year’s annual fundraiser Festival Concert on Friday 7 December 7.30pm – always a firm favourite – is performed by The Philharmonia Chamber Players, string players from the Philharmonia Orchestra. The programme features works by Brahms, Piazzola, Gershwin and Cole Porter. Tickets @ £16 include mulled wine and a mince pie and the chance to enjoy the trees in a night time magical setting. The Festival will be opened by Mrs Helen Nellis, Lord Lieutenant on Wednesday 5th 10.45 am.
