Bedfringe events are taking place all weekend at the Quarry Theatre and the Place. Comedy, drama, dance, spoken word plus live music on the Garden Stage programmed by the blender boys. Check out the website for full details of everything going on.
Friday & Saturday
Textile artist, Hannah Heys will be creating live art at Made in Bedford at Number 13 between 10am and 2pm on Friday 19 and Saturday 20 July.
You can choose bespoke, freehand machine-embroidered designs to a palette of your choice for £20. Take home on the day or arrange to collect at a later date.

Luke Tuchscherer & The Penny Dreadfulsare playing a Bedford homecoming gig at Holy Molys at Esquires this Friday, with support from Sunsinger and the High Seas and David Banks Music.
Also on Friday at Esquires, there will be plenty of acoustical goodness at a showcase featuring Joe Bygraves, Luke White and Lucy Mair. Doors 7.30pm and entry is free.
On Saturday, Alfie Templemanwill be performing at Slide Record Shopto celebrate the launch of his new EP. He’ll be playing a stripped-down set and signing copies of Sunday Morning Cereal at 2pm.
Everyone is invited to celebrate 50 years of Bedford Community Fire Station on Barkers Lane this Saturday.
The fun takes place from noon til 4pm and there will be a bouncy castle, BBQ, fund-raising raffle and the chance to dunk a firefighter. More information on their website.
From 2- 5pm at Foster Hill Road Cemetery, local Sunday Times bestselling author, Ruth Hogan, will be accompanying a walk led by Rowan Lennon. They’ll be exploring the graves and sites in the cemetery that are mentioned in Ruth’s second book, the Wisdom of Sally Red Shoes.
Ruth will also be doing a short reading and signing copies of the book which will be available to buy on the day. Meet at the Chapel about 10 minutes before the start of the walk. Tickets are £6.50. More information on their website.

Oldfield Youth Club will be at Esquireson Saturday night. Formed in 2018, OYC is made up of 3/4 of critically acclaimed 1980’s pop group The Last Party.

In this week’s guided walk, follow in the footsteps of the ‘Immortal Tinker’ and author of the famous “The Pilgrim’s Progress” to various town sites connected to the life and works of John Bunyan.
Sites include the Bunyan Meeting Free Church, the sites of the jails where he was imprisoned, and the statue dedicated to him.
Meet at the Old Town Hall, St.Paul’s Square close to the gold plated letter box. Cost £3 per person, must be pre-booked at the Box Office. More information at their website.

Alongside the Bedford Flea, the whole town will be taking part in a celebration of Bedford’s Italian community this Sunday at the Bedford Italian Festival, giving visitors the chance to immerse themselves in La Dolce Vita.
From 12 noon until 5pm, there will be Italian food and drink, music, entertainment and plenty of iconic cars.
The party atmosphere will be helped along by special guest performers from Bedford’s twin town, Rovigo.
‘Mouth-wateringly Italian’ food will be provided by some of the town’s most well-known restaurants, cafes and caterers including Mamma Concetta, TrE Fratelli, Gelato John, La Rondiene and Versuvio.
Petrolheads can get their fix at three locations throughout the town, as Riverside Bedford becomes Piazza Enzo Ferrari, St Paul’s Square becomes Piazza Ferruccio Lamborghini and a collection of Fiat, Maserati, Lancia and Abarth Alfa Romeo cars will be in Harpur Square.
This weekend sees the first, Smooth Sundays at Herd with Geoff Ware from 12 – 4pm. Geoff will be playing the perfect Sunday afternoon soundtrack, a mix of soul music across the board including classics, Motown, crossover and modern midtempo.
As usual on a Sunday, roasts, sharing boards and burgers are available from 12 – 4pm along with a selection of draught and bottled beer.
There are two free Sunday walks at Foster Hill Road Cemeterythis weekend.
At 1.30pm, Stories Behind the Headstoneswill investigate Bedford’s heroes and villains, the brave and the bad, the mysterious and the downright weird, and why gravestones look the way they do. All Human Life is Here!
At 1.45pm, the Crime & Punishmenttour takes visitors on an interesting journey through Bedford’s 19th Century criminal past, visiting various graves in the cemetery that include an innovative Prison Governor, a murder victim and a policeman.
Tea and home-made cakes will be available for a small fee after the walks. Meet at the Chapel about 10 minutes before the start of the walks.

Bedfordshire Music Trust presents the Bedfordshire Gala Orchestra Concert

This grand event will see 150 musicians of all ages, who were trained through the Bedfordshire Music system over the past 50 years, gather to perform.
The Sunday Afternoon Sessionat Esquires this week features The Blues Measures. This four-piece, female fronted band playing songs by Wanda Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Imelda May, Ruth Brown, Etta James, Eva Cassidy, Koko Taylor, The Stray Cats, Joe Bonamassa & many more…..Featuring Kerry Jo Hodgkin on vocals,Dave Gunning on guitar, Steve Campbell on bassand Chris Burke on drums.
The Hitchen Band perform at Music in the Meadows on the Victorian Bandstand (opposite the Embankment pub) this Sunday from 3 – 5pm.
Everyone’s welcome to come along and bring the family – and a picnic – to enjoy two hours of traditional bandstand music in this lovely spot on the banks of the River Great Ouse.
