THE SHUTTLEWORTH COLLECTION & SWISS GARDEN
One of Bedfordshire’s best-loved visitor attractions, The Shuttleworth Collection & Swiss Garden are just off the A1 at Biggleswade. On-site parking is free, coaches are welcome, or fly into our grass airfield (PPR required).
As a self-funding Education Trust, we charge entrance fees to visit The Collection and the Swiss Garden, but our restaurant, gift shop, and Play Area are available to everyone.
The Collection opened to the public in 1963, with further aircraft and vehicles added over the years. Events that encompass flying displays and vehicle parades draw crowds from all over the world. The Collection’s aircraft and vehicles, as much as possible, are all kept working as intended – it’s where history flies and drives!
The Shuttleworth Collection is a registered charity, self-funded through daily admission and airshows ticket sales. Purchase admission tickets in our Visitor Centreor book a ticket online.
Adjacent to the aerodrome that houses the Collection, the Swiss Garden is an outstanding example of the Regency fashion for creating landscapes in a picturesque alpine style.
It is a peaceful, tranquil space, and one which has new vistas revealed at every turn. Within the garden are 13 listed structures, an adjacent woodland sculpture trail and resident peacock. It’s a delight to explore and recent restoration work in 2014 has ensured it has accessibility for all visitors.
Resident in the garden is one delightful peacock, and ducklings can be seen swimming on the ponds in Spring. During school holidays workshops and activity trails for children are available, and events such as outdoor theatre take place every year and can be booked online. Please visit our events page for all available activities and events.
Our on-site restaurant is open seven days a week and is available to all visitors to Shuttleworth*. The restaurant has a main dining area, additional seating in the Sun Room overlooking the airfield, the Princess Charlotte room to the rear, and outdoor seating.
We are wheelchair accessible and child-friendly. A water bowl is available for dogs, which are welcome on leads in the outdoor seating area.
The Shuttleworth Gift Shop has something to suit most budgets, whether it’s a memento of a fun day out or a gift for someone special. We stock value for money items, with many products sourced from artisan and local suppliers, putting quality first. Browse our gallery of local suppliers below to see some of our favourites!
Our Visitor Centre is on the aerodrome side of Old Warden Park, please use postcode SG18 9EP for SATNAV devices. Our Gift shop is part of the same building, and gift vouchers are accepted here.
Our Play Area was opened by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh and is one of the first UK Play Research and Resource Centres into Children’s Play. The play area includes special ‘high activity’ units for older children and much of the equipment has been designed for inclusive play to provide opportunities for children whatever their physical abilities.
The Play Area is suitable for children up to 12 years old but no dogs inside the area, please.
