Visit Bedford town centre or take a walk off the beaten track and you are sure to find one of Bedford’s many independent shops, nestled among the big brands and household High Street names. From traditional ironmongers to record shops, craft beer to bookshops, there’s something for the most discerning of customers.
Over 75% of our town centre businesses are independent (more than Cambridge) so there’s plenty of choice – and you’ll definitely find an indie coffee shop or café to provide some sustenance!
Bedford’s indies are run by people with passion, which means excellent customer service. The internet just cannot compete with encyclopaedic product knowledge, personal service all packaged beautifully.
Bedford has more free parking spaces in and around the town centre than any nearby towns. Parking is also comparable or cheaper (and that’s without taking into consideration the cost of fuel to travel further afield).
Take advantage of two hours’ free parking EVERY SINGLE DAY at Queen Street car park (5 minute walk to town centre) and two hours’ free parking EVERY SATURDAY at all council-owned car parks. Parking on Sunday is COMPLETELY FREE (in all council-owned car parks).
